Nanny Bloomberg Returns

Former NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg—a notorious hypocrite and nanny who has a loathing for how regular people live their lives—pledged another $30 million to help fund the Sierra Club’s anti-coal campaign. The extreme environmentalist group hopes that Bloomberg’s donation will help them achieve its goal of shutting down half of the nation’s coal-fired plants by 2017.

The campaign, which the Sierra Club calls “Beyond Coal,” is the perfect title for this shortsighted initiative because it leaves consumers wondering “what’s beyond coal?” Someone has to be the grownup in the room and remind the Sierra Club that coal produces over half of America’s electricity—so what does the abolition of coal fired plants mean for us consumers?

To state the obvious, it means much higher electricity prices for everyone. As it stands, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce has already warned that new EPA rules on coal-fired plants could cost the economy $51 billion a year, and the Sierra Club wants to go even further than that! The extreme environmentalists won’t be satisfied until American consumers are forced to shell out half of their money on electricity bills each month. Of course, for Michael Bloomberg that won’t be a problem—he has already made his billions. But for the rest of us, these coal regulations will have a significant impact on our bank accounts.
